A
native of Montreal, Stephen began his travel broadcasting
career in 1990, as the Travel Features Producer on a variety
of public affairs programs produced by the Videotron Cable
Network, Canada's third-largest cable subscription system
--- "Rubinstein at Large", "Rubinstein on Business", "Living
in Montreal"
In 1995, Stephen created the spring-summer
replacement series, "Travel World 95", for Montreal's CF
Cable TV, a compilation of 12 episodes in which travel industry
executives from such leading firms as Tilden Car Rental,
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Mutual of Omaha Insurance,
etc., spoke about the issues and challenges facing them
within the changing travel environment.
April/97
saw the debut of "Travel World" on Montreal's CIQC AM 600
- The World's First Radio Station, founded in 1919 by Marconi
himself. A one-hour travel magazine, the concept has been,
since the beginning, "friends sharing travel with friends",
with an eclectic group of Media Correspondents, ranging
from former CTV National News anchor Vic Phillips (who
replaced
Peter Jennings when Peter left for ABC) to country singer
Tonya (Jaci) Rae, highlighting the destinations to which
they have
recently traveled, in a lively, informal, banter-like atmosphere
reminiscent of a group of neighbours discussing their last
holiday over the kitchen table.
Celebrating
100 episodes in May/99, "Travel World" was soon picked
up by the Liberty Works Radio Network in August of 1999,
becoming
the first Montreal-produced radio show to enter into American
syndication. With the demise of CIQC AM 600 on December
12th/99, "Travel World" is now heard exclusively
on the affiliate stations of Liberty Works, reaching an
estimated 400,000 weekly listeners over the air-waves and
on the internet.
As Montreal's most experienced travel broadcaster,
Stephen brings, in addition to over 10 years in Montreal
television and radio, 20 plus years in the corporate travel
sector, handling such valued clients as the Montreal Expos
baseball
team.
A graduate of Montreal's Concordia University,
where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Major
in Marketing and a Minor in Administrative Management, Stephen
enjoys, in addition to travel, dining out in fine restaurants,
theatre, karate, and walking to discover new neighbourhoods
in his hometown.
