Sharon didn't know what television was until she was eight years old. She was born in Nairobi, Kenya and spent her early years in east Africa attending American schools in Kenya and Tanzania. The only news she heard came via her father's old transistor radio.

The family relocated to New York and then Miami before Sharon attended Florida State University to earn a degree in communication. After traveling the world with the Department of Defense's USO program, Sharon began her reporting career in Tallahassee.

Cajun country called next. Sharon anchored in Monroe and Shreveport, Louisiana before moving north to Greensboro, North Carolina as an anchor and reporter.

Sharon returned to Florida to anchor the news in Orlando. But she missed North Carolina and has come back to make the Triangle her family's home.

Over the years Sharon has covered numerous hurricanes, John Glenn’s historic return to space, the centennial of the Wright Brothers’ first flight, the Super bowl and state politics. She also has moderated gubernatorial and mayoral debates. Some of her favorite assignments are taking viewers “behind the scenes” of NBC’s most popular shows like The West Wing, Law and Order, Frasier, ER and Third Watch.

Sharon stays very active in the community. She’s especially proud to be a member of the Board of Directors for Sisko Foundation. The non-profit organization sponsors “Raise a Racquet Against Breast Cancer” every year. All the money raised stays local to help fund research and outreach programs to fight the deadly disease. Sharon also volunteers on the Advisory Council for the Assistance League of the Triangle, which helps women and children in need. Sharon has been the Honorary Chairman for March of Dimes’ “Walk America” twice and has served as Grand Marshal of Raleigh’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

In addition to winning an Emmy Award and an Associated Press Award, Sharon was given the Key to the City of Pensacola, Florida.

Sharon and her husband live in Raleigh with their son and daughter.

Most Memorable Trip: My most memorable traveling experience was working for the Department of Defense's U.S.O. (United Service Organization) program. I was part of a performing group called the "Florida Girls". We entertained American and foreign troops in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Europe. The two-month tour was exhausting but very exciting. Shortly after the Gulf War, we were invited to do a special 4th of July show on the U.S.S. Nimitz in the middle of the Persian Gulf. It was a wonderful feeling of pride to share this experience with the men and women who protect our freedoms everyday

New Favorite Trip: My new favorite weekend get-away is the Napa Valley in Northern California. It's just a short drive from San Francisco and well worth it. Dozens of wineries are open for tours where you can see how the wine is made and, of course, sample some of the best offerings. I stayed at a lovely place called the "Silver Rose Inn", owned by Jean-Paul Dumont, a native of Quebec.

Dream Trip: I would love to travel to Australia and South America. I'd also like to return to my birthplace of Kenya. I haven't been back since I left many years ago when I was a little girl.

Hobbies/Interests: My hobbies include golf, tennis, reading and day dreaming about my next travel destination.
